04/09/2006 - Sportsman's / Team One AZ State Criterium Champion - Criterium - Cat 1/2
1st Chloe Black 239348 SUMMIT VELO CYCLING TEAM
You
guys are some of my closest friends and I wanted to share with you that
I had a 'season highlight' on Saturday.
The 2008 Arizona State Crit Championships were held in Phoenix and I decided that this was a race I wanted to win
(again) since I didn't get a chance to defend it from 2006 since I wasn't allowed back into the US until my visa was
approved. So the figure 8 course was tight, the conditions were hot (90'sF) and I was the only one without a team
mate, but it went down perfectly. My buddy and fellow cyclist/coach, Greg Cushing helped (as much as I would listen
to anyone, hehe) me so much. I just needed someone to tell me what I'd tell someone else, but of course we don't
always listen to ourselves.....Greg was my little voice from inside that I wanted to ignore, but he made me listen:
Thanks Greg!
The sprint was over by the last corner, so I practiced it a few times in the race. Basically, I had to start my sprint by second last corner, which as most sprinters know, feels counter-intuitive. But that was the place and it went off without a hitch. Tom got to witness me in full stress mode as I've made it clear to the world that I wanted to win this race.....put the pressure on myself and didn't want to 'fail'. Anyway, thanks for listening to my being excited. This old lady still has a bit 'o' sprint left in these legs ;) Oh yeah, raced Superior RR yesterday and it was 100km with about 2 km at 10% near the end. I've never seen so many grown men on the side of the road crying in my life! I decided I didn't want to join them, went through 6 bottles and e-tablets and clif shots, epic! I can still sprint, but I still can't climb! Yikes, I'm so sore today! Love you guys and miss you lots! Chloe ps. Here's Lulu and I after the race. It was fun to have her and Tom there
